London’s Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) is the first of many new initiatives being introduced across the UK, designed to tackle the growing concerns over global warming and our nation’s increasing awareness over our carbon emissions. With its introduction, cars, vans, lorries and busses that don’t meet the proposed standards will be charged according to the weight of their vehicle. These charges are either £12.50 for cars, motorcycles and vans that weigh up to (and include) 3.5 tonnes, while heavier vehicles such as lorries and buses/coaches can be charged up to £100 upon entry into an Ultra Low Emission Zone, depending on their weight.

Brought in to combat traffic pollution, the new ULEZ encourages commuters to find alternatives to travelling into the city with personally owned vehicles.
