Following on from a multitude of Mobility as a Service developments in 2018, 2019 holds promise for another successful year of new initiatives for the MaaS orientated travel industry. These new, forward-thinking initiatives that will develop over the course of this year will help to accumulate larger amounts of support upon the concept and eventually should lead to the full integration of MaaS into individuals’ everyday journeys.
Hyper-convenient Services
Convenience through a range of on-demand services is one of the key aspects of the Mobility as a Service experience. Having a number of travel options all located within one platform provides the user with complete freedom over how they want to reach their destination, leading to more enjoyable travel journeys on average in comparison to current travel models. Combining the opportunity to balance your journey between convenience and practicality also gives the user a much more flexible and personalised travel experience and having several travel providers all accumulated into one platform saves a significant amount of time when booking a larger-scale journey making the process much less daunting.
Mobilleo’s goal is to aggregate these methods of travel and provide travel solutions from both an individual and corporate perspective allowing all forms of business traveller to improve their relationship with previously hectic business ventures, making them quicker, managed and cost-effective.
Greener Initiatives
With global warming having become a public concern over recent years, 2019 holds promise for more eco-friendly city infrastructures being developed with assistance from Mobility as a Service. MaaS promotes a more developed and on-demand form of travel, meaning that the ownership of private vehicles has the potential to become redundant due to it being an inefficient expense for many business travellers in the coming years.
Within Mobilleo the platform goes further than improving environmentally aware initiatives through MaaS, it also has an in-built carbon footprint calculator when using the smart search feature. This carbon footprint calculator allows a user to see the carbon emissions for each travel method and possibly make their journey method depending on which is the most environmentally friendly. One of the many benefits of MaaS is that it provides the user with the ability to balance between practicality, comfort and eco-friendliness.
Company Car Replacement
As previously mentioned, privately owned vehicles have the potential of becoming redundant and this also applies to the concept of company cars. Company cars are an inefficient travel solution that more often than not leaves the vehicle not in use and taking up valuable space. Mobility as a service introduces a new concept that revolutionises the way corporate travel runs whilst still making it quick and in some respect on-demand.
Mobilleo’s budget planner feature allows a corporate travel manager to provide a budget for the user, allowing them to choose from a plethora of different methods depending upon their personal preferences. This includes options such as Car rental meaning that a business traveller can still travel upon their own initiative without having to privately own the vehicle, cutting out unnecessary maintenance costs.
Connected Cities
An idea that gained a lot of interest in 2018 is the concept of connected cities. Working in coordination with systems such as MaaS and IoT (Internet of Things) to link multiple different aspects of a city’s infrastructure to react to real-time events such as traffic signals reacting to patterns and adjusting accordingly. Connected cities is an extremely promising project that could greatly enhance the lifestyles of the business traveller and the general population as everything begins to work in conjunction with each other. This is an especially exciting prospect for 2019 as we will see major developments towards the construction and implementation of Connected Cities, and alongside this will be the promotion of Mobility as a Service and all the benefits it provides.
Business Leisure (Bleisure)
This is possibly one of the most personally important initiatives that will gain popularity in 2019, the mixture of business travel and leisure to for Bleisure. As more people begin to blur the line between business and their personal life by travelling on business terms more, many are beginning to partake in the idea of taking a day during their travels to take in their surroundings and fully take in and enjoy the place they are visiting.
Bleisure holds the potential to drastically change many peoples view of business travel, making it a much more enjoyable and revitalising experience as opposed to the current view of it being a daunting and tedious task. Bleisure holds the potential to greatly improve people’s emotional wellbeing and make their daily lives less of a routine and more of an adventure.
Many of these initiatives for 2019 have been in the conceptual stage for quite some time however this year has a good chance of being the period in which we shake the foundations of mobility and revolutionise how our cities work on a grand scale.
